Our church (Emmaus) is doing a 21-day Daniel Fast. A Daniel Fast finds it’s origins in the Biblical book of Daniel when David and his friends participated in a few different kinds of fasts. Ultimately, the idea is to remove some habitual food or activity from your life and replace it with some spiritual discipline like prayer, reading, etc.. The goal is to heighten our awareness of God during these 21 days. The fast started yesterday (Sept 21st). I’m…..hungry.
I”m fasting from food for 21 days. I’m telling you not to brag, or for you to feel sorry for me. I’d rather you pray for me and Emmaus to deepen our walk with God! We hear so little about fasting these days when Jesus said WHEN you pray and fast, not IF you fast and pray. I think Jesus’ encouragement is still for today!
So, today is day “two” of my fast from all food (I can drink all the liquids I want). I’ve determined to read through the Pentateuch (first 5 books of the Bible) and pray regularly. I felt pretty lousy yesterday and went to bed and woke up with a massive headache, but I expected that. Feel much better today. I intend to unclutter my life, pray more, and read during meal times.
I know I don’t need to fast to sense God’s presence in my life. I know I don’t need to fast to be closer to God. He is already close and I can do these things while eating everyday. But, I want to once again become more aware of how strong my flesh is, how much I am ruled by the path of least resistance, and how I love to decieve myself by not paying attention to areas of my life that need change. I’m hungry for food, but more hungry for God to change me, to learn, and to grow. Pray!
Keep it going!
Thanks
Eremeeff
I’m fasting, too. The first few days are the hardest! BUT hang in there, you can do it, think of the reasons why you’re fasting, drink plenty, pray and expect a breakthrough!
I am fasting today, 3rd day dry fasting. Really hungry, but no its the devil, I am not eating.
