I’m facinated to learn what our church’s 21-day Daniel Fast is teaching people! All of us are fasting from something to be more aware of God’s presence in our lives. God is shedding light on areas of my life that just have been a low priority to me, but to Him, are a high priority. Like spending time praying, having quality time with my family, and finding joy in small things…other than food!
This reprioritizing is an imporant thing to God. Exodus 20:3-5 says that we should have no other gods before him. The preposition “before” is an imporant one. I’m realizing that even as a pastor, I can place things before God. What do I turn to when I’m stressed before I finally turn to God? What do I turn to when I’m angry before I finally turn to God? What do I read before I read a passage from the Bible? Do I want a pat on the back from people before I want approval from God?
Today is just another day in my 21 day fast, however, I’m learning once again that nothing should come before God in any area in my life. The goal that Jesus has for me is to be like him.
